Ecologist - Position Available

What is the role?

We are currently looking for a dynamic individual to join our friendly and well-established ecological consultancy team as an Ecologist, in a permanent and full-time capacity.

Nurture Ecology is a busy consultancy based in Jersey and we provide a broad range of ecological services focusing on the protection of wildlife and habitats within the Channel Islands.

As an Ecologist, you will help support the team while also taking charge of your own case load, managing projects through from start to finish, while forming strong working relationships with our valued clients. Everyday tasks could involve undertaking field surveys (e.g for bats, reptiles, birds, botany, invertebrates and amphibian surveys), survey analysis, desk studies, client liaison and producing a range of ecological reports such as Preliminary Ecological Appraisals and Ecological Impact Assessments.

We are particularly interested in applicants that have proven experience working at an ecological consultancy and have specialist interests in specific wildlife groups, backed up by Continued Professional Development and licenses.

In addition to our competitive salary and holiday package, we also offer other benefits including an enjoyable working environment in rural Jersey (with free parking), paid membership to a professional body, staff socials and flexible working hours.

What are we looking for?

  • Educated to at least degree level in a relevant subject;

  • At least 1+ years of experience working as an ecologist within a professional consultancy;

  • Have, or be working towards a minimum of Associate Membership of CIEEM;

  • Be able to demonstrate a ‘capable’ level of competency in ecological surveys and reporting, as per the CIEEM skills framework;

  • A broad ecological skill set and ideally a holder of Jersey or UK protected species licenses;

  • A competent knowledge of local and relevant international wildlife legislation and planning policy;

  • Confidence in written and verbal communication;

  • Some project management and client liaison experience;

  • Great organisation and self-motivation skills;

  • A passion for ecology and the environment;

  • Full driving license, with at least 2 years of driving experience;

  • Flexibility to work antisocial hours during summer months (2-3 bat surveys per week).

If you do not meet all of the criteria listed above but feel you are right for the role, then please do still apply. Ultimately, we are looking for a well-rounded Ecologist and we are willing to work with our chosen candidate to develop skills in these areas.

What is the remuneration?

£30,000 - £36,000, depending on experience.
